WHY I USE A DAILY CIRCUIT

The circuit goes by a lot of names

Some call it a practice, a ritual, daily habits, your thing — but whatever you decide to call it, all it is is a set of actions you take to help your day, or even just a moment, go well.

Mine helps me shake off the morning anxiety, feel a little more grounded*, and focus in on a specific task.

Without it I tend to feel more overwhelmed and its much easier for my attention to get pulled in different directions.

* Grounded: a word widely used by health and wellness professionals that was extremely challenging for me to understand 😂If you’re not already familiar with the term or the feeling, the best way I can describe it is that it’s like knowing where you are vs. feeling slightly lost. If you like visualizations, grounded feels like what it says — both feet firmly on the ground as if your feet were growing roots, not shifting weight or with one foot trying to get somewhere else. It feels stable and safe, and like chaos can exist separately from you.

How do you know if you need a circuit?

Well… in my humble opinion everyone needs one. Maybe not needs, but could definitely benefit from.

But some common markers are:

  1. Jumping straight into work without orienting yourself

  2. Burning out in the afternoon

  3. Switching tasks frequently, leaving some partially done

  4. Mind regularly darting to other topics

  5. Low threshold for overwhelm or frustration

Basically, if you feel like, as a general rule, you’re either high on life or totally tanked.

Ok… I need one. Now what?

Acknowledging it is easily 75% of the battle so HIGH FREAKIN FIVE to you!

Discover & share this High Five GIF with everyone you know. GIPHY is how you search, share, discover, and create GIFs.

Now. Start super small. Like CRAZY small.

Smaller than you think. So small it seems hardly even worth it. Here’s why.

If you start really small, it means you increase your ability actually do it. If 75% is acknowledging it, the other 25% is made of up doing it.

Since you may not already have any circuits in place, you have to start somewhere, so give yourself somewhere to succeed!

If you don’t know where to start…

Use mine! These are the super small circuits I started with.

  1. 10 seconds of deep breathing

  2. Open the door and take one breath of fresh air

  3. Do 5 squats

  4. Do 5 wall or knee push ups

  5. Give myself and/or my husband a high five

  6. At the end of my work day say “I did a good job today!” (even if it doesn’t feel like that’s true!)

See. SMALL.

And if you want to create bigger circuits that are built for you, let’s talk :)
